Teams & coaching
What teams do you have for the 2026–2027 season?
Power-level teams for 13U through 16U: NorStar 13-1, 14-1, 15-1 and 16-1. We look for advanced skills, competitive drive, strong character, coachability and teamwork. See our 2026–27 teams and rosters.
How do age groups work?
An athlete's age group is based on her birth date, not her grade in school. Two teammates in the same grade can end up in different age groups.
- USA Volleyball publishes an age chart each season that sets the birth-date range for every age group (12U through 18U). See the USAV 2026–27 age chart.
- Find your athlete's birth date on the chart to see which age group she plays in this season.
- Athletes can sometimes play up in an older age group, but never down in a younger one.
- Not sure? Ask us and we'll confirm it for you.
Are you still holding tryouts?
Our 14U–16U rosters are full for 2026–27. A few 13U spots remain — register for our 13U Supplemental Tryouts on Saturday, October 17, 1–2 PM at SportsHouse.
Who are the coaches, and how can I meet them?
Meet the staff on our Coaches & Staff page. A great way to work with them in person is Positional Training with Coach Simo and Coach Ina, or one of our clinics.
Will my daughter have a shot at making the team?
Every player is evaluated on skills, energy, effort, attitude, coachability, teamwork and potential. Evaluations are ongoing, and team selections are based on this assessment.
What competitive opportunities does NorStar offer?
NCVA Power League events and national qualifiers throughout the season, with the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship or AAU Girls Junior Nationals in the postseason. See the schedules by age group.
Is strength and conditioning offered?
Yes — it's a key part of our program. NorStar members receive special rates for strength, conditioning and rehabilitation programs with RNA Sports (paid separately from club dues).
Where is the club located?
Our club home is Apex Sports & Courts in Belmont, CA 94002. Positional Training and the 13U Supplemental Tryouts are held at SportsHouse.
Programs, payments & policies
Does NorStar offer private lessons?
We offer semi-private Positional Training — small groups of no more than 6 athletes with Coach Simo and Coach Ina. Week 1 (Oct 20–24) registration is open for 13U–14U athletes; sessions for high school athletes (15U, 16U, 17U & 18U) are coming soon.
What if a session I want is sold out?
Contact us to join the waitlist and we'll let you know if a spot opens. Spots fill quickly, so register early.
Can I reschedule or get a refund if my child can't attend?
Registrations are non-refundable because of fixed costs. Rescheduling requests are accepted at least 48 hours before the session; requests within 48 hours can't be accommodated. This applies to clinics, open gyms and tryouts.
Are discounts or scholarships available?
Limited discounts and scholarships are available to eligible families through the ThriveSphere Athletics Foundation, subject to availability. Contact director@thrivesphereathletics.org.
